Cutting selvage to selvage

I am making the sashing strips for my quilt and it says to cut 2.5” strips selvage to selvage. Is that the same as cutting WOF or the opposite?

decorative stitches with a walking foot

I have a Janome 4300 QDC machine with a walking foot. Can I use decorative stitches with my walking foot? If so, what would be my limitations in the kinds of stitches I can use?

Unhappy backing material too small

I have the perfect fabric for the backing but unfortunately it is the same size as the quilt top. I need it to be 8" wider and 8" longer. What is the best way to piece it without getting too many...
