when both of my sons go married I made a big deal out of the brides ( my now daughter in laws) picking the pattern and the fabric and then Ok' samples- I think it was a great thing for starting off...

yep you didn't add the 1/4 seam allowance- the middle shouldn't be meeting until it has been sewen- it looks like you cut the templetes on the sewing line instead of the cutting line- try it again...
