I replace when dull as it is dangerous and frustrating using a bad blade, sometimes to clean and sharpen a little I cut up cooking foil, works for a bit, but in my opinion new blades are a necessary...

I agree beautiful tote, velcro is OK short term but it is inclined to gather threads etc. why not try a pretty matching button with a loop, effective but not complicated as you can see.
