I had the same issue. It does come off. I pried it from both sides with a screwdriver. It came off but takes patience. I just kept working on it and a little at a time it came off.

Motor spring

you need yo have the rubber pulley off the machine.
when the spring is engaged in the motor and it is properly attached to the back of the machine hold it down against the spring tension and...
