There is also a disappearing paper out there that you can print on and instead of tearing off it is water soluable. I use it primarily for paper piecing.

It takes me about the same amount of time - maybe...
It takes me about the same amount of time - maybe a tad longer - to do a queen. I work on it while watching TV and doesn't seem to take that much time then.

I use sheets as backing a lot. They hold up well and have that familiar "sheet" feel. Unless it is a quilt you expect to be a family heirloom and last 100 years I say go for it.
