I use a 1/2 inch seam when sewing with flannel. And I agree - clean the lint out of your machine after awhile. Good luck! I'd love to see pictures when you are done.

My kids LOVE their rag quilts. My daughter's two favorite ones are literal rags now, but she still loves them. :)

I made this quilt for a friend's new baby.
Flannel strips on the front, and a solid flannel back.
Since it's only 2 layers of flannel, it is more like a receiving blanket...but a fancy one! :)

I think you can do it with either one or two layers of flannel. I haven't used flannel yet but I'm sure I will as soon as I get to the store to buy some. :D

This one was done with regular cotton...

The "quality" flannels will have a regular price of around $9-$10 per yard. You can find them on sale, though, for around $7. The ones I like are Riley Blake, Moda, and Michael Miller.

I have made a blanket the way you described it. Lay 2 pieces of flannel wrong sides together. Sew around the whole perimeter, leaving about 1/2 inch exposed all the way around. Then clip the edges...
