I read on another site to wrap the edges of the plexiglass with duct tape. This acts as a "STOP" sign at the edges so you don't mistakenly mark off the glass and onto the quilt.

How about making a small bobbin/spool holder...
How about making a small bobbin/spool holder using wooden dowels that are cut to your desired length? Drill small holes in a wooden board, glue the dowels into those holes, and....there you have it....
