I just add a bead, knot the ends, then fray them...
I just add a bead, knot the ends, then fray them out. You need to be careful with burning because it can leave sharps bits.

I like using 2 strands of DMC. That way you can cut an extra long thread, double it over to thread and then pass through the end of the loop to begin. This means no knotting and no loose end to work...
