I've been told and my directions say 3/4 yd for a standard pillowcase and 1 yard for a king. That is not adding the cuff and whatever trim.

Ditto! Machingers are worth every penny. Cloth drys my hands out, and then I can't guide the cloth. Machingers does the trick.

I agree, that seems to be a single pane. An eazy peezy fix. Done many of them in my past. Good luck! Definitely less than 20 bucks.
