Laura, you should join the vintage kenmore yahoo group. In the files in the group is a listing of what sort of cams go with which machine. Also, I would bet someone on there has a manual.

Keep looking or get a 301! They're better, IMO because they offer more flexibility. You can get one for around $100 and will last you forever.

No, that's not normal. It sounds like you've got some lint, crud, old oil in the pressure foot lifting area or tension discs. Check the areas, clean and see what happens.
