Or make each one look like the sun is hitting the tops of them by putting the lighter shades of the color family on the top-most petals. Pink on top of red, yellow-green on top of forest green, etc.

Fun pattern. After looking at some of those photos, I can tell you *my* preference —which I think could marry your two choices. How about making each tulip a different color , but only one color...
