Fixed a runaway Janome foot pedal!

How did you all open up your foot pedals?
My Janome MC6600 foot pedal is doing the same thing. I unscrewed the 2 visible screws in the bottom, and it wouldn't open. I didn't want to force it and break anything. Any tips? Mine is an older...
