I did try the method suggested by Boston1954 and it worked beautifully. Piece removed, and replaced. Boom, done. Thank you, everyone!

I have inherited several quilt squares that have shapes ironed on to them with some sort of adhesive product. I am guessing that it is a fusible web, as the shapes are slightly stiff and very evenly...
