Well, you need at least 6 repeats in your fabric (or 8 if you plan to make your kaleidoscopes octogons) but if you want to make it bed sized you need a ton of fabric. I think I read in my book that...

This is my first attempt at a kaleidoscope quilt, it's going to be a medium sized wall hanging, since there wasn't enough fabric left on the bolt for a bigger quilt.
