Singer's model 15, first introduced in 1870, has a round bobbin. The 27/127 and 28/128, first manufactured in 1885, have a bullet bobbin. So it wasn't an all at once switchover.

I beg to differ with the characterization of a 1952 Singer as antique. I was born in 1952 and I am vintage, not antique. And I am worth waaaaaay more than $500.

One of the best machines I ever used was a Pfaff from about 1955-1960. I was not allowed to touch the tension. And my aunt's Elna was a beast.
