You may be right...I really don't know who first...
You may be right...I really don't know who first call it crumb quilts. To be truthful, I had been doing this long before I had the internet. To me it is an off-shoot of string blocks.

No, no foundation... I just piece enough...
No, no foundation... I just piece enough together to be able to cut the square out. I used a 6 ½ inch ruler for these, but you could use any size you wanted.

No, no formal way of piecing them...just add where you want to add. Some of mine are almost built log cagin still, and others close to rail fence...just whatever I can get to fit.

No, it is quilting...and it does show. If you will look closely, you will see the two parallel lines in the sashing...then about 6 inches below you will see the parallel line that is in that orangy...
