I just do not like leaving potential residue on a device that fabric will slide through, so I use Dawn dishwashing liquid (great grease cutter) to clean things up.

the second WW8 Ruffler here was cleaned with Brasso and an old toothbrush, followed by a Dawn and water rinse.
