489205489206489208Rodney, here is one I made for a 66. Used 1X3 oak from Big box home store. Outside measurements are 20'X8 3/4"X2 7/8" but you can keep it 3" so you don't have to rip down the stock....

As Rodney said before Edit if you make the plug going the same as the grain it will hold better but since the tops of sewing machine is laminated veneer you should have no problem with a hard wood...
