I've used your method for appliqué and cutting and I've been quilting for years. I wouldn't say you were backwards. You just march to your own drumbeat. Not a bad thing in my world. Happy quilting!

I agree with several ladies: read your manual, play and practice on scraps, and learn how make an accurate 1/4" seam. When you are familiar with your machine, choose a smaller easy project first.

I couldn't find hand sanitizes in my area. Grain alcohol and vodka were better than nothing in my humble opinion even at 40% alcohol. Sometimes we have to make the best use of what's available.
