Needle size is dependent on the thread weight. The type of needle may be influenced by the materials but size is a thread decision.

I often use a tiny zigzag Ora blanket stitch. For embellishments I sometimes choose a different decorative stitch. I never use a satin stitch I don’t like the heaviness/ stiffness of a satin stitch.
