I am another one who votes for leaving the JR intact. You can always take out a colour at a later stage if you need. I have rolls of colour but they are my own precuts.

I have seen this made with a jelly roll too but I think the using of different size scrappy strips really amps it up.

I use thin fabric for foundations for heartstring (string) quilt blocks. My mother sometimes finds cotton fabric that I wouldn't use in my top or backing but it is great for these foundations.
