No way would I buy a machine that expensive without putting it through it’s paces first. As much as you want it at a good price, that’s an impulse buy. Too many unanswered questions without trying it...

I’ve never used coordinating backing on a quilt. I look for either a backing with the same colors or complementary colors. That way they’ve got a two-sided quilt!

I don’t think it will really matter what batting you use. Just don’t go “cheap”. I’ve used Warm & Natural, Hobbs 80/20 and Dream Select on large quilts I’ve hung without any problems.
