I like this, and it's the right weight. I forgot to mention that the fabric is a sturdy shirt weight, suitable for uniforms in a hot climate.

As far as I know, there was never a Slant-O-Magic offered by Singer. The 301 was referred to simply as the slant-needle machine. Perhaps you are thinking of the Slant-O-Matic designation of the 400...

Ideas for camouflage fabric?

I acquired 30+ yards of this fabric a while back:

It was used for military garments in Desert Storm. There was something wrong with the design that made it stand out rather than blend in...

"Improved" Toll-House cookies

This recipe was a happy accident. I was going to make peanut-butter chocolate-chip cookies, but discovered that there was only almond butter in the cupboard. It may be audacious to claim that these...

The cotton fabric in a good-quality man's shirt is much higher than most quilting fabrics on the market. A quilt made out of shirt fabric would last a long time and have a subtle sheen.

I've been...

Thanks for the review. Even a cabinet in not-so-great shape is sometimes better than using the machine as a portable on a tabletop. At least it's at a good height and is even with the work surface.

This is my favorite. I haven't made a whole lot of quilts but have done some that are far bigger and more intricate but I like the way this one came out. It was for a pregnant colleague who...

Keep water away from the decals when cleaning; it will "silver" (ruin) them. (Ask me how I know.) The safest way to clean painted and decaled surfaces is with machine oil.

The 66, and its little...

I'm not sure what little screw you're referring to, but if the needle moves when you turn the handwheel manually, then all you need to do is tighten the belt a little. Don't make the belt too tight...

No one has suggested a vintage machine, so I will. I recommend a pre-1960 Singer 15 or, if you don't like loading a bobbin, a 201. If you require decorative stitches, a 401. Beautiful, reliable,...

Does the needle move if you turn the hand wheel manually? If not, the thread jam is a good bet. Remove the bobbin (in its case) and try again. This is usually a simple fix when a machine has recently...

Ely's Fabric Warehouse in Mobile, AL closing

I recently moved part-time to Mobile, Alabama, and discovered a gold mine of a resource there, Ely's Fabric Warehouse, which I believe has been in business 50+ years. It's a rambling, run-down,...

It's in beautiful condition! (I think the portables tend to be in better shape because people put them away.) Funny, the name "Titan" for such a diminutive machine.
