Trying slowing down, and my machine behaves better if the feed dogs are UP with the stitch length set to 0. Keep trying, you will get there :)

You take 4 fabrics and make 5 strip sets you then you cut those at 4 1/2" . So you should end up with a rectangle of 4 1/2 by 8 1/2...

I have a Janome 7700 and my tension is always better if I leave the feed dogs up and set the stitch length to 0. Keep trying, you will get there.

I use 505 basting spray with the Quilters Dream...

I use 505 basting spray with the Quilters Dream Poly batting and it works great. You can use pretty much any method of basting when FMQ on a domestic machine, experiment and find the one that works...

I have the 7700 and apart that it is fussy with thread (mine likes Guttermann) I love it. It has sewn everything from denim to chiffon without missing a stitch.

I have a Janome and my machine shreds thread when I drop the feed dogs. I leave mine up and set the stitch length to 0. Also make sure that the quilt is supported all round and its not getting caught...
