I got the motor apart except for taking the armature out of the fields. What I mean is the windings of the armature are very blue, like heat, and my guess if there is shellac on them it is mostly...

Another one?

Is this the same thing, only with a different name? Someone brought this one to me to repair. It needed the springs on the upper tension assembly. Thrifty Farm Girl led me to the replacement parts.

Something in common

I noticed right away the interesting foot control on the Featherweight and the Singer 301. There is a post on the right for your foot to rest on while tipping your foot for the speed control. It was...

I first found the FW shop when looking for a belt. I had a replacement belt in my mother's machine case, and when I tried it, it made the slow machine worse, so I bought one from that famous online...

What I did was kero, then move things around, then kero again, move around again. Wait a few hours, did that again. It didn't seem to work at first, so I added oil. The next morning it was so loose I...

Thanks for the response. I figured it was for something like that. Mine has Down, 1 2 3 Up on the base plate under the dial. The manual is helpful too. I figured it was a singer clone, but didn't...

Rodney controls

What is the little chrome dial with a pointer on it to the left of the bobbin spool pin on the base of these machines? It appears to change the height of the feed dogs. How is it used? (I haven't...

Rodney

I almost forgot about Rodney! I would guess this is considered a badged Japanese machine. I friend gave it to me years ago, and it was my go to machine until a few years ago. Works fine, no fancy...

I have one of these, and the fashion discs are missing. I found a set online for a model 568. I haven't been able to find out if these will work. Looking at the pictures, it is likely, but I would...

I am new to this forum, and have been really enjoying the vintage machine posts. This machine was my grandmothers. It is a New National, made by New Home, so I read. It usually lives on top of my New...

Make sure the needle threading is correct.

I have had an issue like that, only to find that I missed threading the needle. Double check Pages 24-26 of the manual. Is the thread properly in the tension disks?
Just a thought...

By jiggle do you mean back a very slight rotation? It could be somewhere else that is sticking it other than that main shaft. Try oiling it everywhere with kerosene and let it soak for a day, then...

I just freed up 3 machines, a 301, a 66 and an Electro Grand. I used straight kerosene, and put it into all of the places that normally would take oil. This was an instruction in the Singer 301...
