If you are a beginner at curves, the larger one will be easier to create smooth curves.
Rather than using templates, I got the creative grids circular ruler and can make a bunch of sizes of circles.

Just delivered this one to the new parents who are very outdoorsy and love hiking. I made blocks of drunkards path animals and arranged them, then added button eyes that were sewn on extra tight.

I don't like the acrylic templates, they tend to be undersized for me to hold easily.

I tape a paper card stock 3/8" from the edge of a square ruler to make a cutting guide instead.

This was all made with 3 1/2" sized, 60 degree triangles. If you have worked with 60 degree triangles in the past it isn't any different. I recommend starching the fabric well before cutting...

I use cup hooks on the sides of a small wall cabinet. The cup hooks screw into the wood and are very secure, but I needed to use pliers to straighten the curve out a bit.
