We are now 'cat people' but have had many doggies in our life. We've had 2 unbelievable Norweigen Elk Hounds, one amazing Austrilian Shepard, and the most precious was a 1/2 toy collie and 1/2 English Shepard (She was my best friend through my teen years along with my black and white pinto mare, named "Miss Prairie Apachie"). We also had several episodes of raising birds. First parakeets, then cockatiels.
Animals were the most natural way of teaching our children about reproduction and the associated responsibilities.
It must have worked, all three kids are amazing parents, amazing kids, and all are responsible "pet parents". BTW, All 6 Grandkids (we call 'em kidletts) ALL are wonderful! ! !
