DD also got a small sewing kit when she went off to college. Later I found a wonderful fish tackle box for her next birthday. I hate to mend probably because I am not good at it!! We had a neighbor who could mend and you would not be able to tell it was mended. But she passed away.
I am a quilter but not a seamstress! LOL
