I have done this it does work - its for when you have a whole bunch of seams that come together. You want to iron it first then put it on a solid surface and whack it. It does really help and I would try that first. But I think one of the other earlier posts had it correct you might need to take it apart a little bit and adjust the seams - yeah I know it sucks.
