I made a postage stamp quilt - 2,500 1" squares and I thought THAT was a lot! I sewed them in rows of 10, then sewed 10 rows together, then joined the resulting blocks. In order to make the rows match perfectly, I drew 1" lines onto tracing paper, then "paper pieced" the squares on. I trimmed the rows to 1 1/2", then ripped the paper off before adding another row. This method worked well and all my seams matched perfectly. I don't know if that was cheating or not, but it sure got the job done.
