This quilt block is a common quilt block. I know there are probably other names for it but I call it Rolling Stars. I use my cut down methods to make it easy to make.

I use my Boston Blocks and Half Square Triangle blocks(HSTs) to make this one.

Here is a link to the directions for making my Boston Blocks. And a link for my way of making HSTs.

The colors you use will affect how it looks. Try differant color combos and see what one you like the best.

I like to sew them into 4 patches and then sew two 4 patches together. Then add the last 4 patch to the first two. Sew them into rows and then sew the rows together.

Here you can see the individual "Blocks" and how to lay them out. Make sure you pay attention to where the differant colors are in each block.

2nd Boston Block color arrangement - You will need 4 of these

Solid Block - I see I have a differant color for the center of each pinwheel. You can choose either the lighter blue or the darker med blue for the centers. It is just a differant look. _ You will need 4 of these

Continue to sew the 4 patches together and sew the second row together

First Boston Block color arrangement - You will need 16 of these

One of the HSTs - You will need 4 of these

The other HST - you will need 8 of these

Okay look at the first 4 blocks in the upper left corner of the layout picture above. I like to sew these into 4 patches. Makes it easier to get the corners to meet.

Next sew the top two together and then the bottom two blocks together

Okay now sew the two rows together into a 4 patch.

Sew the next 4 blocks together into a 4 patch and then sew the two 4 patches together

Sew the last 4 blocks in that row together into a 4 patch and sew that 4 patch onto the other two 4 patches. This will creat the first row of your Quilt Block.
