I used to keep a table cloth on the table...then we got a cat. I make the placemats to protect the table; I tell my son not to worry about them because they are washable. My husband seems to think he shouldn't set his used utensils on the placemats (apparently he doesn't listen), so he sets them back on the table; then I have to clean up the mess he made on the table! The finish on the table didn't live up to our expectations, and having to clean up his messes just makes it worse!
