What about if you get a few fat quarters or 1/4 yd cuts of new (yes, I know having to buy more is sooooooo painful!) fabric that might add a twist of different color or texture or something with a few dots of red or wine for instance? Or take what you have to a quilt shop and ask the ladies there--both employees and others shopping quilters. Sometimes someone has an idea and you get the light bulb moment. You will put too much work into it to not be happy with it.
