We like the sweet potatoe as close to its natural state as possible. We like them just baked like a white potatoe with a little pat of butter, salt & pepper. Or:

1. peel (easier than when they are hot)
2. cut into pieces (1 or 2 inch size)
3. steam till tender (I use a steam basket in the bottom a pan they sell in produce.)
4. mash with a little butter, crushed pineapple and/or dried cranberries. Add cinnamon, nutmeg or pumpkin spice as you would like for taste.

very simple and not a lot of added calories. We eat these at least twice a week.
