In MA, but not too far from the RI/CT border, is Charlton Sewing Center
www.charltonsewingcenter.com Beautiful store in an old church, very well stocked, lots of friendly helpful staff. Also on their website are a number of other area stores, had a great day trip last month with my sister. Fabric Stash, just down the road, is also good.
