My sewing room is in our unfinished basement as well. Actually it is partically finished. We don't have humidity to speak of and I don't have any problems except what was mentioned-lots of light. My quilting machine and frame is in the den in the basement and we also have a wood stove in another room down there. No problems except again-you need lots of light. I prefer the basement-it's out of the way, and you don't have to put everything away, just close the door, and it is nice and cool in the summer and with the stove going, it is nice and warm in the winter. I have a portable heater I add sometimes, but those are the only considerations I think.
