The purpose of the occasion is what defines the quilt. My older daughter is very contemporary in style but she likes softer colors, so I made a queen sized Yellow brick Road quilt using the colors in her home. Photos below.

ANOTHER IDEA: A friend of mine (mother of the bride) sent out ready-made blocks, with borders on all four sides, and backed with ironed on freezer paper, to the relatives of the bride and groom who were married or divorced. She asked for wedding advice to be written on the blocks and returned to her by thus-and-such a date. A month later, allowing for stragglers (!) she sewed the blocks together with her choice of sashing for the quilt BACK, making what she and her daughter designed for the quilt top.
