Not a silly question in my book. I too am asking about all this paper business. Why is it necessary, what is the purpose of it. Thanks.
It's been posted before, but here it is again: the paper acts as a stablizer while sewing odd-shaped and bias cut pieces, and lets you create a very straight strip, which is impossible without the paper. Leave the paper on unitl you sew the strip to something else, then rip the paper off. Use tiny machine stitches which makes it easier to rip the paper.
