I bought a batik caftan from Africa while on a trip through Oregon. The owner warned me VERY strongly to wash it at least 4 times in the washer on warm with half a bottle of white vinegar each time. It will set the dyes for you, but to be safe I'd not take the chance in a quilt. Maybe just a small wall-hanging. Sara
