My personal preference is satin and minky. I do not put anything between the two. I pin the edges and in several spots throughout the quilt. I sew the edges. Then, by hand, I use embroidery thread or floss to sew * shaped stitches throughout the quilt, about 1/2 " long each stitch. (You could do this where your corners meet in your squares.) I then put a satin binding on. It's the softness the babies and kids love, and I find that these are the blankets they drag around with them, and cuddle up with. They love the softness of the satin, fleece or minky.
So the baby is a girl. They need to get over their issues quickly.
