I usually macrame hanging pot holders. I have masses of drooping plants that I love, and got bored with the ones planters available in stores. I use the thinnest nylon cord I can find. I get a large round key holder and use that as the starting point. I can use any kind of container, and have. Even a very old metal child's potty that I pounded drainage holes in!!
This usually lasts enough years so that when I'm tired of the plant and sell/give it away, the cordage is still in good condition after a spray bath with a touch of bleach.

Inside I take LONG LONG lengths of plastic wrap from Costco, stretch and twist and have a colorless and strong line I can put anything on for decoration in windows to let sparkling colors flutter through the room in the sun light. Works for hanging plants in water, pretty in clear containers.
