I worked in a quilt shop in the late 90's that ripped nearly all the fabric (some fabrics just dont tear straight- those we would very carefully cut) I rip my fabirc at home frequently- especially if I am going length of grain for borders. Naturally I add a little to the measurement so I can trim off the little "whiskers", but the long strips are always straight that way it it takes far less time.
