I have lurked her for several months looking at the beautiful quilts and learning about this new obsession of mine called quilting.

I finally finished my first quilt and I wanted to share it with someone that could really appreciate it's history and the meaning behind it. So, here goes....sorry if it's too long.

My 83 year old grandmother has struggled with Alzheimers for the last 8 years or so, but she has always had a passion for sewing, knitting and needle work. As I child I spent many hours playing in her sewing box, playing with her buttons, and whatching her cut out patterns or do needle work. A few years ago we had to pack my Granny's things up and somehow I ended up with a box that had some of her half finished work. In the box were some quilt squares that she has been embrodering since the '70's, it was very pertty work!

As I pondered what to do with these things, I ventured into the world of quilting...OH MY! I am working on making each of my Granny's daughters and granddaughters a quilt with the blocks that she so diligently worked on for so many years ago. I ended up giving the first three pieces to my aunt and cousins for my Granny's 83rd birthday this year. All through the process I though constantly about the wonderful woman whose hands went before mine, who's love of pretty things was passed on to me, and I was profundly moved to think that even in her current state of advanced Alzheimers, she is still teaching me things...without those quilt squares falling into my lap I might never have learned how to quilt!

So, here are the pictures of my first 3 quilt projects...but they are so much more than projects.

Thanks for letting me ramble...
