i'm a late 40's model--but i remember the wonderful quilts my grandmother made with the fabrics and feed sacks from the 30s. when i'd sleep overnight on their farm, she would tuck me in with my favorite quilt--a bowtie pattern, i called it--and it was a pleasure, even then, to find the matching fabrics from bowtie to bowtie. it was thick, and tied, because of the heavy wool batting. it is my great joy, now, to be the caretaker of that quilt, and of several others that she and my other grandmother made. those feedsack and scrappy quilts are still my favorite ones. and i love the repro fabrics that are being reissued--many of the prints are in that bowtie quilt.
