Batting comes in various weights, you can even take a 4oz batt and split it in half for a 2 oz. I would stick with poly batt if you are going to try that. You could have a top and back it with fleece for a cozy but still lighter quilt (no batting). You could us flannel as a filler or some folks have been using poly-felt if you want a little weight but still really thing. Really it is all up to you and what you want to do.
