I've had success with Hydrogen Peroxide. The quilt did have a white backing but it was colored on top. Didn't change the color on top at all. I just put a little on the spot and rubbed the fabric gently together. Then I took just a dab of cold water and soap and rubbed it gently. I used just a teeny bit of soap so it takes very little water to sponge it out and then just layed it out to dry. I've had a lot of success with this. I tried cold water on a spot before but it left an ugly ring where the water dissoved the blood and then spread out although, with washing in a washing machine it did, ultimately, come all out. I don't like to wash my quilt when completed if it's a gift. Good Luck
