Kirby's of old were awesome workhorses. I suppose the modernization of the materials used to construct them has made them an inferior product. My mother's first Kirby was purchased in the forties.
I have a Hoover WindTunnel, but what I need is a vacuum cleaner with a long hose that can do walls and above furniture. The WindTunnel is not cutting the mustard for me. It's awesome on carpet and hard floors, though.
