I also do NTA and absolutely love it. It IS time-consuming, tho. I've done machine applique for quick projects that go to "children" or other family members who I know will wash the quilt alot. Have 3 NTA at the LA...am going to enter them in DM show...will post them sometime this summer when I get them back. PRACTICE PRACTICE PRACTICE, like with anything else (along with a bit of patience) and you'll do just fine:) Have fun:)
