I'm having this problem right now with my middle finger. I went to the Dr who sent me to occupational therapy. They determined it is a pinched nerve causing the trouble. They also put an anti-inflammatory patch on it that has a little battery pack attached to it (like a big band aid with a watch battery. It helps take the pain away until it all heals.
