If you really can't find any fabric, they sell the t-shirts at Kohl's and with their deep discounts and coupons, you might be able to get a really inexpensive tshirt and use it as the center square (t-shirt quilt with the fusible stabilizer) and use coordinating fabric around the rest. I know they also make sheets (could be used for the backing too).
